MAAHMG Youth Curators
September to December, 2022

This exhibit highlights the achievements of some African Americans in art, entertainment and sports. The Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery’s 2022 Youth Curators created this exhibit. MAAHMG’s Youth Curator Program consisted of ten teenagers from the Twin Cities ages 14-18. The students met every Saturday for nine weeks, exploring African American history, art and culture. In addition to the history exhibit the group created a photography exhibit called “Northside Through The People’s Eyes” showing North Minneapolis in a positive light to combat negative images that the media shows of the community. They also learned about the tradition of quilt making in the African American community and created a quilt as part of the MAAHMG community quilt project.
