MAAHMG Youth Curator Program Application 2022

The Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery (MAAHMG) seeks to engage youth and change lives through African American history, art, and culture. The participants will meet once a week on Saturdays during 3-hour sessions for 10 weeks from June 4 to August 6, 2022.

The program is aimed at youth ages 14-18 years old. The Youth Curator Program will engage high school students in discovering the craft of museum curation. During the program, participants will engage in research, interviews, photography and art. The cohort of students will produce a museum-quality exhibition. The program will have two components that will result in a history exhibition and an art exhibition, both created by the students which will be displayed at the museum. The students will share what they learned in a community discussion. The program will be limited to 12 students and will follow COVID-19 safety protocols. Students will be paid $400 at the completion of the program. This program will teach youth valuable time management, planning, collaboration, communication, research, writing and public speaking skills. The program will develop and enhance their ability for both individual and team success with outcomes that strengthen confidence and self-esteem.
